The land of my birth

Yes, I am from New Jersey. Someday I'll write something about that. New Jersey's state anthem is "Born to Run" by Bruce Springsteen. "It's a death trap/It's a suicide rap/Better get out while we're young." So I did. This is what I listened to when I was a teenager in New Jersey. They're from California.

DOA wrote a song called "No More Suicides" about the high rate of teenage suicide in your home state. The boys from Burnaby are a little less subtle than Springsteen.

Yeah, that was MY FUCKING HIGH SCHOOL. Man did it suck. Seriously. My high school led the nation in teen suicides in the '70's. We got written up in Time and Newsweek. I never, ever get nostalgic about that place.

Hey I grew up in Morris County NJ. A place called Landing by Lake Hopatcong. My High School was in Succasunna. There's some names there, huh? At 19 I got the hell out and moved Manhattan. Yeah, it was weird when that state senator wanted to have that as the state song. I guess he never really listened to the lyrics.
