In the pines

When I was kid, I learned this song as "Little Girl" but it's also known as "In The Pines" and "Where Did You Sleep Last Night". Here, it's called "Black Girl". Apparently some young people think Curt Cobain wrote it. That's alright, when I was a kid people thought that Led Zeppelin wrote "Gallows Pole". Wikipedia has a nice article on the song. I don't know who The Blackhands are, but I like their version.

Looks good, Jon. You got a handle on the music side pretty quick! Nice site too.

Hey. Hope I didn't speak too soon : I can see the imeem consoles on the page and the play icons respond when the cursor hovers over the icons, but I can't hear anything. Can't get a download link either.

Could be just me, though - I just upgraded my software here...

I didn't try the download, but it plays OK for me. I had trouble when I clicked on the post title and got the permalink. For some reason, the console wasn't there. When I opened the main page, it worked fine. I'd like to hear from others. Where are the music lovers?

Hey, Jon. False alarm. It turns out it was my browser which was causing the playback/download issue. Works fine now!

That Carmaig De Forest track is pretty damn good!

Hey about the "I better have a more serious recovery blog" I feel you might have a good sight right now writing about music. So here's a tip. There's a site called songbird (download it) It is a combination music player/downloader and web browser. It kicks ass as far as downloading goes and posting mp3s on your blog. It'll take a little time to learn the ropes but it is well worth it. On their homepage they have tons of eamples of people who use songbird for their music blogs.

Just helping out.
Peace

Thanks Frank and ib. Yeah, I used to have a blog where I wrote about politics, religion and recovery. Lately, politics makes me tired and public profession of religion seems kinda worthless compared to spiritual action. In some ways ditto for recovery. Man am I glad to be alive and sober, but better to live good sobriety than talk about it. I will check out songbird, but I am pleased to have gotten somewhere with imeem. Their offices are on 4th St. in SF. In the course of my daily long walk South of Market, I went looking for them. Somewhere near the train station, but I got distracted. I bet they'd hate it if some guy walked in off the street and started asking them questions.
