I'm watching The Wrestler. It's another movie set in New Jersey. I left New Jersey when I was a teenager. I've never regretted that decision. Every time I watch a movie from New Jersey, I get the sinking feeling that I am fooling no one and that I need to give up and go back to Jersey.

I loved The Wrestler and I could so relate, don't ask me why except maybe I'm now a "has been," lol?

Did you hear about John King, that he died?

I liked The Wrestler, but I don't know about love. It depressed the hell out of me. I know I weighed myself, and checked my blood pressure and blood sugar after watching it. Plus, as someone who spends a lot of time doing the math and figuring out how I can retire, I was a little bit puzzled as to how Randy managed to end up broke after more than 20 years of hard work. You'd think he'd have something to show for his efforts. I've known a couple of small time wrestlers and they were both former college athletes and hard workers. Then again that probably doesn't fit in with some Hollywood guy's picture of wrestling and Hollywood has always believed that, when in doubt, it is best to go with the lamest stereotype.

Also, I don't admire middle aged men who worry about their bygone glory days. I am definitely over the hill, but I am also the happiest I've ever been. Back in my "glory days" I was drunk, loaded and full of anger, blame and self pity. These days are sweet.

And about John King: Yes, I heard. The ukulele world is very much about the internet. News travels ultra fast. I'd heard and admired some of his stuff, but I didn't know much about him. I figured anybody who could record an album of Bach for solo ukulele had to be pretty interesting. He was pretty interesting.

Always good to hear from you Babz.

Wow, quite the commentary. You made me think. And btw, my 2nd cousin was Haystack Calhoun, that is if you know wrestling? I grew up around it, my grandpa was an avid fan and took me to several bouts and I did meet Haystack. Oddly enough, I was at a pretty skeezy bar called the Bullfrog Hotel in Jamestown, NY and this really big dude was standing in the lobby at the same time I was and I struck up conversation with him(half drunk as I was)and I mentioned as big as he was, he should've been a wrestler. I said "Your hands are huge. Death grip." He kinda laughed, shook his head and said, "That's funny cause I was." I said "Oh yea, my cousin was Haystack." Now, he's really laughing and says something like, "I was 'The Claw' and his tag team partner." After speaking w/him for a few more minutes he said, "Well, I think I'll go on up and retire." He lived in the hotel, known for it's fist fighting, beer blasting, biker brawling but real scary roaches, I mean the kind that must know and sense fear. Another "has been." I vaguely remember the name. I wanted to grow up and marry Bruno San Martino. Now, he's in Pittsburgh, I saw him at the Italian Days Gala signing and greeting outside a pizza shop, right there in Bloomfield. He was old and gray. And I have no frigin idea why I'm telling you all this, ah shit another "Alzheimer Moment" brought to you by the makers of Black Velvet. You know for the discerning biker trash as I was, hahaha!

PS I was angry as it ended and yea a bit depressed. You know why but damn if I couldn't relate, like I said. I don't know, this getting old crap is for the birds. Now, I don't know how old you are but I'm 50, rode hard and put away wet. But I damn sure have lived, I'll say that. Done more than I should've, good and bad, mostly bad but I've lived, if I died tomorrow.

Devil Dick, I'm glad someone here is willing to take a stand for New Jersey. I will say that, when I lived in the midwest, I would dis Jersey, but I sure wasn't going to hear from people from Indiana. What I usually said was something to the effect of, "Who the fuck are you to put down New Jersey? You're from fuckin' Hammond, Indiana." Actually, I hope that the best place in America is a closely guarded secret, known only to locals and a few trusted friends. I don't think it's in California either.
