Poetry Awards

If Wilfred Owens was not totally, totally dead he probably would have won.

I'm sure a ripple passed through the literary world with my sudden announcement that Nazz Nomad has won the prestigious Poetry Is For Assholes poet of the year award. I mostly gave him the award because he writes poems that are pretty short and easy to remember.

Let me assure you that I will be posting an even handed and fair discussion of how the judges and I reached our decision. There are several fine poets who come to this blog on a regular basis. Then there's Eloh in Alabama who posts Robert Service poetry which should probably earn her some kind of award.

Just lately I have been getting home around 9 or 10 at night and going back to work at 6 in the morning. I'm so tired I'm seeing shit. Short and easy to remember counts for a lot. Sometimes I fade in and out of dreams and vivid memories of my childhood. I could have given the award to the author of "The Saggy Baggy Elephant".

ooohhh! my first award for my "art".

I would like my producer, my director and most importantly, my dealer.

Goodnite Mrs. Calabash, whereever you are

Art is a heartbreaking business. Many years ago, some shit that I doodled was reproduced in a "Zine" that I occasionally wrote for. Someone liked my doodles and reproduced them for a gallery show of "New Underground Cartoonists" at a gallery in SF. My doodles were hung on a wall, around the corner from the other artists, underneath the stairway. The curator of the exhibit told me that he didn't have enough paper, so he decided not to include my work in the official catalog of the show. Nonetheless, I insisted that he give me a copy of the catalog. He acted like I was robbing him but finally gave me one. He wouldn't introduce me to any of the other artists. We hung around for a while and left. Mind you, I didn't ask to be in his show, it was his idea. Maybe the other artists were offended because they really drew pictures, while my art was a bunch of stick figures, fucking. It was one of the pinnacles of my career as an artist. It was mostly a pain in the ass.
